Most comedic line in a news story today:

Her friends dismissed the possibility of impropriety, saying she and Sullivan are both devout Christians who would never take advantage of the government for personal gain.

This morning's Osgood File on KCBS radio discussed people who cheat the government out of taxes by exploiting complexity in the tax code. I imagine the typical exploiter makes at least one order of magnitude more money per year than I do. Hey, that sounds like someone in a newspaper article I just read...:-)

I somehow suspect that there are more than two such "devout Christians" who take advantage of the government (or tax code) for personal gains. I bet some of them are even elected officials.

Yeah, it was just the idea that anyone could say such a thing in face of abundant evidence that being a 'devout Christian' won't stop you from doing all sorts of bad stuff. It's almost as comic as a quote from a neighbor to the effect of 'but he was such a quiet man, he couldn't possible be the Brooklyn Hatchet Murderer!'
