important little things like rent
Ha! I have emerged victorious in my latest battle with EDD. They will be sending me an affidavit to sign so that I can get a replacement check, and they'll be sending me a form for the last two weeks so I can send it in. I'm wondering a bit if someone is stealing checks out of the mail -- that's two checks I had disappear around the same time.

I've discovered that save for one time, the EDD folks are very helpful when you get them on the line, but getting through to them is hell. I've been calling every 15 minutes for the last two days and only now finally made it. I couldn't even get into the queue, I just got the 'maximum number of calls in the queue, try back later' message every time. I was beginning to get a little panicky, since a missing check means a missing submission form too, and I needed to file for the last two weeks.

My current music is one of the reasons I'm in love with kazaa and audiogalaxy. It's one of my favorite songs ever, but I've never been able to get a real copy. Just my nearly 20 year old copy of it dubbed off the radio, on a tape so delicate I'm afraid to play it anymore.

Even sending my sister to England to get a copy failed. Well, she was actually going to England for other reasons, but she faithfully looked through three stores, including the giant HMV in London, and couldn't find anywhere. Of course, I did get to mock her, because Mom and her and mocked me when I had explained that I hadn't put any music on my Christmas list because I didn't think they could find any of the groups I liked. So I gave her a list. And they couldn't find them. Ha. It was the height of new wave, I had obscure tastes.

But this was my favorite of all the things I had asked her for. I looked for it on the internet periodically, once discovering a John Peel session tape with the single attached. I cackled with glee and tried to order it, only to discover that it was indefinitely out of stock.

So when I finally gave into the downloading music meme, it was one of the first things I thought to look for. And it came up instantly. And I don't care what the RIAA thinks about that.

Is it *my* fault you had musical tastes that went beyond the obscure? (I find this story interesting, coming as it does from a woman who has been downloading N'SYNC music. How 'bout some Britney while you're at it????)

But seriously, the evil that is Audiogalaxy will soon cause my hard drive to overload. All my principles gone, just because it turns out I missed *two* Beautiful South albums during my self-imposed "buy no music" phase. And once you start, you just can't stop. How did I come to England without Green and Automatic for the People? What was I *thinking*?

ps I'm glad you got through to the unemployment folks. And if you really think that someone may be stealing mail from you, you should order a copy of your credit reports *right now*. It's free to the unemployed-and-looking-for-jobs. You don't want anyone stealing your identity.
