Still two kittens
But I did end up taking her over to Adobe, because she started straining again and didn't produce a kitten within the half hour, as the cat pregnancy site suggested she should. They x-rayed her and found one last huge kitten, which they helped her deliver. Also stillborn :(

I'm not feeling too adequate as a kitten foster mother! Though I couldn't have done anything for the first two, as they were born while I wasn't there; I rubbed them down and cleared their mouths, just in case, but they were pretty clearly beyond help. Maybe the last one, if I had taken her in before she tried to deliver it.

The grey and black kittens were pronounced healthy and vigorous, however, and she's in a box in the spare room with them.

Sweetie, no fretting. There wasn't anything you could do. Sometimes things just happen. *hugs*

Thank you! They are such little scraps of things, you feel bad you couldn't do anything for them.

One of the reasons cats have litters instead of single spawn is so that they can have a still born or three and still have spawns to survive the rigors of kittenhood to one day spread their genes again indisciminately. :)

This is true. And it will certainly be easier to find homes for two kittens instead of five.

I sometimes wonder what Gail's litter would have been like. She was only a kitten as well, six months at most when we adopted her. They didn't tell us how far along the kittens were, though.

And now for the fun part -- I recommend "Ashes" and "Soot" for names.

ooh, those are good choices! I'll have to think about it.

Congratulations to mom and foster mom!

NBK did the hard part! I really do need to name her, I was thinking Chimney or Chimneysweep if I name the kittens Ashes and Soot.
