house of fruits
princessmei's houseguest Jim brought fruit with him from roadside stands, and then more was brought at the wonderful Milk Pail in preparation for Thursday's yummy bbq. And then today katchoo_too's Box arrived. Which means that that we have 14 pints of strawberries, 13 grapefruits, and great huge heaps of oranges, plums, grapes, bananas, apples and pears. We've all been devotedly eating them, but there's only three of us.

I plan to turn the apples into apple brown betty (they are a little old), and the bananas can become banana bread if they go brown before they are finished, but I haven't a clue what to do with grapefruit. Anyone got any suggestions?

Candy some of the grapefruit, though I admit I'm hard-pressed to come up with uses for *13* grapefruit. Grapefruit sorbet?

Ooh, ask Emily for the grapefruit marmalade recipe she made with Susannah; I got a jar of this and devoured it instantly, it was soooo good. Really beautiful, too.

hmm! I wonder if we have enough for that. I'll check.

SMOOTHIES!
I'm not sure about the grapefruit, but if you have lots of other fruits, I would suggest freezing chunks of them for smoothies. This does require a hefty blender, however.

And if you do, be sure to freeze the chunks on a tray and then put them in a container, or else you will end up with fruit bricks (I found that out the hard way once).

Re: SMOOTHIES!
I did that with some strawberries earlier, I think I may do it with the rest. Lots of strawberry chunks!

Juice the grapefruit. The only thing in this world better than fresh orange juice is fresh grapefruit juice.

...and that's when grapefruit went on the Denied list. :)
